Peabody State Rep. Thomas Walsh joined staff to cook for families in Boston as his fifth annual partnership drive kicked off this summer.

PEABODY, MA — State Rep. Thomas P. Walsh took part in preparing dinner for families receiving services at Ronald McDonald House New England in Boston, while also formally opening this summer's pop tab collection drive.

The nonprofit provides accommodations and hospitality to families from around the world while their child undergoes life-saving treatment at nearby Boston and Rhode Island hospitals. Walsh's visit marked the start of the seasonal collection effort, which is now in its fifth year of partnership with the organization.

"The pop tab drive has reached more people each and every year thanks to our local press and dedicated participants sharing news about the good work that RMHC performs every day," Walsh said.

“Donations through the pop-tab campaign enable us to offer a comforting, home-like environment to families during long medical treatments," said Ronald McDonald House New England CEO Lauren Hoops-Schmieg.

She said the Ronald McDonald House also appreciates assistance with receiving items from its Amazon and Target Wish Lists — which include essential household items like laundry detergent and bed linens.

People who want to participate in the pop tab drive are encouraged to contact Walsh with questions or to arrange pickup by email at tpw6@comcast.net.

Following Labor Day, the collected pop tabs will be delivered to the Ronald McDonald House in Boston. The aluminum tabs will then be recycled, with proceeds benefiting the charity's programming.

The Amazon and Target wish lists can be found here.
