Peabody Gets $20K Traffic Study For Margin Street Stretch To Salem Line

Funding in a state supplemental budget will support a traffic study on Margin Street from Danvers to Salem.

PEABODY, MA — Peabody will receive $20,000 for a traffic study of Margin Street under a recent supplemental budget passed by the Legislature and signed by Gov. Maura Healey.

The funding covers the stretch of Margin Street from the Danvers border to the Salem line, according to an announcement from Representative Thomas P. Walsh and Ward 3 Councilor Stephanie Peach.

Margin Street, also Route 35, is the primary link from Danversport to downtown Salem. The roadway includes dozens of unsignalized side street intersections between the Danvers border and Salem, creating many access points along a heavily traveled route.

Traffic from Route 114 is absorbed by Margin Street where the two roads merge at the Gardner Street intersection.

The supplemental budget was signed by the governor on June 12.

"I have heard loud and clear from neighborhood residents and motorists alike that this busy stretch of roadway needs attention," said Rep. Walsh. "I am pleased to collaborate with Councilor Peach and secure Fair Share funding to conduct a traffic study of Margin Street, a crucial first step for any future improvements."

Peach said the study was an early move toward addressing the issue in the area.

"This funding is an important first step in addressing long-standing traffic and safety concerns on Margin Street and in the surrounding neighborhoods," Peach said. "I appreciate Representative Walsh’s partnership in securing funding for this much-needed study.

"The findings will help guide future improvements to make the area safer for everyone."
