Peabody Bans All Non-Essential Outdoor Water Use Amid 'Critical' Drought

PEABODY, MA — Peabody residents are required to halt all non-essential outdoor water use as the state declares a "critical drought" in the region.

The designation immediately restricts use of all sprinkler systems, lawn watering and car washing, among other outdoor water activities.

These restrictions will remain in place until the state determines that drought conditions have improved.

The ongoing drought is placing significant stress on Peabody's water system due to high demand and reduced supply, officials said.

The city said reducing outdoor water use is essential to maintaining adequate system pressure, preserving storage in our water tanks, and ensuring reliable fire protection throughout the City.

"The cooperation of all residents and businesses is critical during this period," said Peabody Mayor Ted Bettencourt. "Taking steps now to limit outdoor water use will help safeguard the integrity of our water system during these challenging summer conditions."
