Peabody City Councilor Concludes Lt. Governor Write-In Campaign

PEABODY, MA — Peabody City Councilor Anne Manning Martin, who launched a write-in campaign for the Republican nomination as lieutenant governor after her ballot nomination forms were disqualified because of accused fraud on behalf of her signature collector, concluded her bid for the office following Tuesday's primary.

Manning Martin said voters deserved a choice in the race after she believed she had the signatures to qualify for the ballot, and she received the 15 percent minimum support at the Republican State Convention this summer.

So she embarked on the long-shot write-in campaign to challenge the lone remaining candidate on the ballot — New Bedford City Councilor Shawn Oliver.

Unofficial results from Peabody showed 490 write-in votes — with the majority presumably belonging to Manning Martin — in the race where Oliver received 1,974 votes.

"I want to thank everyone for all the support I received throughout my unconventional journey for LG over the last several months," she posted on her social media account on Tuesday. "From those I have known for years to those I met at the convention and along the way, I value our conversations and friendships. But most of all, I want to thank you for being part of the process.

"I wish well to all who have made the ballot, who will continue their fight for better government for the good people of Massachusetts. Remember — good people make good government — so keep up the fight, and I'm sure we will see each other again soon."
