PEABODY, MA — Peabody residents are being invited to the first Sak Strong 5K in memory of teacher, coach, family member and friend Christopher "Sak" Sakelakos.
The event is on Sept. 20 and will benefit the Sak Strong Foundation. The youth race begins at 9:45, with the 5K and 1-mile walk beginning at 10.
The foundation was created in honor of Sakelakos and his fight against Osteosarcoma. Its mission is to raise awareness, support families facing Osteosarcoma, and help fund research aimed at improving early detection and treatment and ultimately finding a cure.
The event will also celebrate Sak's strength, kindness and love for his family, along with his lasting impact on the people around him.
The Sunday event will include the inaugural Sak Strong 5K run and walk, a 1-mile walk and a youth fun run. Organizers are also planning an after-party with live music by Beach Nights, food trucks, raffles, lawn games and beer provided by East Regiment Beer Company.
Sakelakos passed away on Sept. 16, 2025.
One-hundred percent of proceeds from the event will go to the Sak Strong Foundation to support its work around Osteosarcoma awareness, family support and research.
Those who want to participate can sign up here.
The post-race party begins at 10:15 with the Beach Nights Live Band kicking off at 10:30.
Awards for top finishers are presented at 11, with a raffle ceremony at 11:45.
The event lasts until 1 p.m.
