Peabody Officers Struck, Dragged In Northshore Mall Parking Lot: Police

PEABODY, MA — Two Peabody police officers were struck and injured, with on dragged across the parking lot, as they attempted to stop two Boston residents accused of shoplifting more than $1,600 in merchandise from the Macy's inside the Northshore Mall on Monday night.

Peabody police said they were called to the mall at about 8:15 p.m. after a loss-prevention employee at the Macy's reported the theft and said that the suspects threatened the employee before fleeing the store.

Police said the officers located the suspects in the parking lot with one of them jumping into a vehicle and striking the officers as he drove away. Both officers were injured and treated at the scene.

Both officers were at home recovering as of Thursday, police said.

Police said a female suspect, Ta'kerria Tenae Sherrod-Greene, 20, of Boston, was taken into custody at the mall on an outstanding shoplifting charge and will be charged with robbery.

The male suspect, Romello McCain, 20, of Boston, was arrested in Boston on Thursday and charged with crimes that include leaving the scene of an accident causing bodily injury, resisting arrest, assault and battery on an officer and robbery.
