PEABODY, MA — Peabody is launching a new Senior Citizen Property Tax Work-Off Program aimed at helping older homeowners lower their tax bills while contributing to municipal departments.
Applications will be accepted until Nov. 15.
Under the program, eligible participants may earn up to $1,500 off their FY2027 net property tax bill by completing 100 hours of assigned work. The city said the program will be capped at 75 participants.
To qualify, applicants must be 65 years of age or older as of Jan. 1, 2027. They also must be a Peabody property owner prior to Jan. 1, 2027, live at the property for which the abatement is requested, and provide a valid driver's license or other government-issued identification.
Applications will be available on the City of Peabody website, at City Hall, the Peabody Institute Library's Main, South and West branches, the Torigian Senior Center, and the North Shore Children's Museum.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for our senior citizens to stay engaged, share their skills, and receive meaningful financial relief," Bettencourt said. "Seniors play a vital role in the life of our city, and we're proud to offer this new benefit."
