ArcWorks Community Art Center's Newest Exhibit: Emerging Talent: Students of Salem State

April 30 – June 27, 2015 Opening Reception: April 30, 2015 5 – 7pm

(Peabody, MA) ArcWorks Community Art Center’s exhibition season continues with the exhibit, Emerging Talent: Student of Salem State,” opening on April 30, 2015, 5 – 7pm at 22 Foster Street, in Peabody, MA. The exhibition will be open to the public through June 27, 2015. This curated exhibit features works by current Salem State students working in a variety of media. Emma Thurgood, the curator at ArcWorks, says, “Students so rarely get an opportunity to exhibit their work off-campus to a broader audience. Likewise, the general public usually doesn’t have an opportunity to see the work being created by the next generation of artists for an extended period of time. This exhibit is a step towards changing that dynamic, by offering students the chance to exhibit their work in a professional off-campus gallery to the general public.”

For many of the students, this is the first real showing of their work. Approximately eight students have been selected for the exhibit, representing the variety of media being taught at the university, such as painting, printmaking, photography and ceramics.

About ArcWorks Community Art Center

ArcWorks began in 2004 as a program of the Northeast Arc to provide artistic opportunities to people with disabilities. It began with monthly guest artist workshops and exhibitions of work by disabled individuals at the Gallery @ Southside in Danvers. In 2008, the program debuted its Originals and Limited Editions faction, marketing fine reproductions of the program’s artists. In 2011, the ArcWorks Community Art Center was established at the Foster Street location in Peabody to better provide artistic opportunities for people with and without disabilities. Exhibits at ArcWorks are inclusive of the community in and around Peabody, providing a forum for local artists of all talents, skill levels and backgrounds to exhibit and sell their artwork.

About Northeast Arc

The Northeast Arc was founded in 1954 by parents of children with developmental disabilities who wanted to raise their sons and daughters as full members of the community. By having the courage to challenge professionals who told them their children could not be educated and would not live to become adults, these parents created the systems that enabled them to attend public schools, develop friendships, reside in the neighborhoods of their choice and to earn a paycheck.

Over the years, our programs have expanded to support children and adults with a broader range of disabilities, including autism and physical disabilities. Today we serve close to 7,000 people from 150 cities and towns. The goal of the Northeast Arc is to ensure that children and adults with disabilities are able to live, work, engage in civic life and play in the community.
