On Tuesday, Dec. 29, the Peabody Triad is presenting a special program on Fraud and Scam Protection with guest speaker, U.S. Postal Inspector Brian Evans. The event takes place at the Peter A. Torigian Senior Center at 79 Central Street at 12:30 p.m.

U.S. Postal Inspector Brian Evans has been a federal agent for over 12 years, both in Washington, D.C. and Boston; responsible for the investigation of crimes involving the U.S. Postal Service and the protection of the American public. The inspectors investigate fraud, robberies, burglaries, assaults, child pornography, drugs and bombs in the mail.

Inspector Evans will speak about current trends in various mail fraud schemes that affect the elderly, including foreign lottery and sweepstakes fraud, work-at-home schemes, charity fraud, investment fraud and telemarketing fraud. He will also provide prevention tips and advice on how to avoid becoming a victim of these schemes now and in the future.

There will also be opening remarks from Mayor Edward Bettencourt Jr., Police Chief Thomas Griffin, and elder affairs officer Richard Cameron.
