Baker's Chocolate: A Sweet History at the South Branch

The South Branch pleased to welcome Anthony Sammarco as he presents the sweet history of the local chocolate company, Baker's Chocolate.

The Peabody Library’s South Branch pleased to welcome Anthony Sammarco as he presents the sweet history of the local chocolate company, Baker Chocolate.

We all see the Baker chocolate bars in the baking aisle of the supermarket, but who knew that the company had such an interesting history that goes back 250 years? Anthony Sammarco did and he’ll be dishing out the delicious saga of the 1st company to manufacture chocolate in America with stories that involve disappearances, smuggling and much more.

Anthony Sammarco is an award-winning local historian who has published more than 60 books on Boston history, including several that have made the bestseller lists. He was named the official town historian for Dorchester by Mayor Raymond F. Flynn and has taught history at the Urban College of Boston. Copies of his book The Baker Chocolate Company: A Sweet History will be available for purchase and signing at this event. Book purchase is not required for attendance.
