Boston North Cancer Association Honors Oncologist and Students

9th Annual Hope Begins Here Awards Reception

The 9th Annual Hope Begins Here Awards Reception proved to be a truly inspirational evening in May when Boston North Cancer Association (BNCA) honored Joel H. Schwartz, MD, an outstanding physician and oncologist, with the Hope Begins Here Award in recognition of his deep commitment to the care of patients and families facing the challenges of cancer throughout Boston North communities. Hundreds of supporters, friends, family and colleagues alike, applauded Dr. Schwartz as the recipient of this distinguished award at Danversport Waterfront. Dr. Schwartz is Director of Oncology Services Mass General/North Shore Cancer Center in Danvers.

This year BNCA recognized seven exceptional college-bound students who are cancer survivors or undergoing treatment for cancer, whose parent was diagnosed with cancer or passed away as a result of cancer, and medical school students who demonstrate a promising career in cancer treatment or research. Hosting these seven scholars with their families, hearing the impact of cancer on their lives, and seeing their promise for a brighter future, is truly inspirational:
