Brooksby Village participates in The Longest Day, a day of activities to promote Alzheimer's awareness

Peabody, MA -- Residents and staff at Brooksby Village, a continuing care retirement community in Peabody, participated in The Longest Day, a day of activities to promote Alzheimer’s awareness. Events were held throughout the day beginning at 7 AM and ending at 10 PM.

“The Longest Day at Brooksby Village has a goal of raising awareness for Alzheimer’s disease,” said Renee Giard, Social Worker, Brooksby Village. “The team at Brooksby Village created a great opportunity to join together around the summer solstice and raise Alzheimer’s awareness with a day of activities. Some of our events included swimming and exercise activities, lectures, a drum circle and more.”

Everyone at Brooksby Village wore purple on The Longest Day to honor and support those that have been touched in some way by Alzheimer’s.

“The days leading up to our event, residents and staff could honor or show support to a loved one impacted by Alzheimer’s Disease by writing a message on a decorative flower,” said Michelle Rowe, Facilities Coordinator, Brooksby Village. “We created a garden full of all these decorative flowers and they were on display leading up to our Longest Day events.”

The Longest Day is a team event to raise funds and awareness for the Alzheimer's Association®. Held annually on the summer solstice, the duration of this sunrise-to-sunset event symbolizes the challenging journey of those living with the disease and their caregivers. Teams are encouraged to create their own experience as they fundraise and participate in an activity they love to honor someone facing the disease.*

Brooksby Village is a continuing care retirement community developed and managed by Erickson Living. The scenic 90 acre campus is located in Peabody, MA and is home to more than 1700 residents.
