Changes in Store at City Hall

City Finance Director Patricia Schaffer is retiring this month.

Visitors to City Hall will see some new faces, as well as some familiar faces in new positions.

City Finance Director Patricia Schaffer is retiring on Sept. 18 after 32 years with Peabody.

Schaffer served with former mayors Peter Torigian and Michael Bonfanti as well as current mayor Ted Bettencourt.

Bettencourt praised the efforts and time Schaffer has put into her position with the city.

City Auditor Michael Gingras will be taking over as the city’s next finance director.

In turn, city tax collector Mary Martin has been tapped to replace Gingras as auditor.

The tax collector is currently an open position to be filled, according to Bettencourt.

Also new at City Hall is Building Commissioner Albert Talarico, who came to Peabody in August after working in Revere for a decade.
