Chiappini (5 Goals) Drives Peabody Boys’ Soccer Past Beverly [PHOTOS]
Field hockey rallies to tie Beverly, 2-2, in a battle of unbeaten teams.
Boys' soccer coach Stan McKeen described senior Mike Chiapinni’s five-goal outburst in Peabody’s 7-2 win against Beverly earlier this week as “a once in a lifetime day” that the Tanners’ co-captain was due for.
“He was a little frustrated because he hadn’t scored in the first two games. He’s not a big kid, but he’s a hockey player with great strength and he knows how to get position. He’s got a very quick release and today he scored two with his left foot and three with his right,” said McKeen, who believes Chiappini to be the first Tanner to post five goals in a game since the early 1990s.
Chiappini connected four times in the first half as Peabody put the game out of reach in a hurry. Senior co-captain Colin Mahoney contributed a goal and five assists. Tommy Drover added a goal, senior keeper Pat Ryan finished with nine saves and midfielder Alec Cerqueira and defender Tiago Brasiliero turned in strong performances.
