Cities Square Off in Softball For Charity

Peabody looks to top Salem again at Cy Tenny Park tonight, weather permitting.

City officials in Peabody and Salem are hoping tonight’s annual softball game between the two cities isn’t a washout.

The annual Salem vs. Peabody softball game is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. at Cy Tenney Park in Peabody.

The game is organized by Peabody city councilors Elaine Milo and Tom Gould, with all proceeds from the event benefiting Haven from Hunger in Peabody.

Peabody won last year’s game, but Salem was without Mayor Kim Driscoll. This year, Salem officials are hoping Driscoll will make it to the diamond.

Both cities have mayors well known for their athletic ability on the basketball courts and are looking to have that success transfer to the softball field.

Driscoll was a standout at Salem State University, while Peabody Mayor Ted Bettencourt played college hoops at Holy Cross.

Last year, the event raised over $2,000 for St. Joe’s Storehouse on Highland Avenue in Salem.
