City Installs Lights to Brighten Up Crowley Spur of the Bike Trail
The trail entrance is adjacent to the Hess gas station on Lowell Street and runs under the I-95 overpass.

Some final touches on the project are lighting up the newest section of the city's bike trail.
Mounted lights were recently installed under the I-95 overpass at the trail head off Lowell Street. A 3/4-mile spur of the longer trail section toward Danvers was dedicated and named for Kristen Gove Crowley this summer.
The trail entrance is adjacent to the Hess gas station. A memorial to Crowley, the lighting and site work there were paid for with $50,000 in community preservation money.
That section runs essentially perpendicular to the 4.6-mile route from Lahey Clinic out to the Middleton line.
Mayor Ted Bettencourt said the new lights will help illuminate the trail surface during pre-dawn and dusk hours and add another measure of safety for anyone out on the trail.
“This was a blighted area of the city that has been completely transformed into a valuable recreational resource,” Bettencourt said, referring to the new spur. “It is a wonderful example of how community preservation dollars can be utilized effectively.”
The section of trail will also eventually be paved, similar to the rest of the Peabody Independence Greenway.
