Dishwasher Who Stabbed Chef At Peabody Restaurant Sentenced

Rogerio Silva Thomaz Dos Reis, 19, set off a manhunt after fleeing the restaurant following the November attack.

PEABODY, MA -- A 19-year-old Peabody man was sentenced to 8 to 9 years in state prison Wednesday for the November stabbing of a chef at the Century House, a popular restaurant in Peabody. Rogerio Thomaz Dos Reis Silva, 19, who was facing as many as 40 years in prison, had previously pleaded guilty to attempted murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, and assault with a dangerous weapon.

That chef, 52-year-old Paul Marques, has permanent injuries from the stabbing. Marques was trying to show Silva, a dishwasher, how to do something when the attack occured. Marques was taken to Mass General Hospital, where doctors performed emergency surgery on a stab wound to his liver. They ultimately had to remove his gallbladder.

"I don't think I can put into words the physical and psychological impact this had on the victim," prosecutor James Gubitose told Salem Superior Court Judge Thomas Drechsler, according to the Salem News, which first reported this story.
