Dowd Breaks School Scoring Record, Nabs Second NEC MVP
Boys' and girls' cross-country also clinched their respective conference crowns this week, with Rocha blazing along to a course record in Beverly.
The Peabody girls are just about to wrap up the regular season, hosting today, and then visiting Lowell on Monday (6 p.m.). It's been yet another impressive season for GIRLS' SOCCER.
The Lady Tanners, ranked No. 9 in the state, picked up another pair of wins this week against Beverly (4-3) and Salem (4-0) to settle at 14-0-2 (11-0-1 NEC). Junior forward Hayley Dowd also broke the Peabody girl's scoring record with 147 points on Wednesday and was awarded with her second Northeastern Conference MVP.
Dowd was joined on the NEC All-Stars by teammates Victoria Digiacomo and Cayla Bucci. The NEC All-Star game will be held Sunday in Revere (noon). Peabody's Bianca Muscato, Taylor Provost and Katie Brunelle will also be joining the North squad for the game.

BOYS' and GIRLS' CROSS-COUNTRY steamrolled past Beverly Tuesday for a perfect season (7-0), the ladies scoring a 19-35 victory while the boys' squad took a 17-43 win. Junior Catarina Rocha tore up the course in 17:42 for better than a minute on the previous record held by a Beverly runner. Lauren Barrett, Sam Allen and Sarah and Sydney May also ran strong races. On the boys' side, Nick Christensen blazed in at 17:04, followed by T.J. D'Amato, Drew Foster and Cody Picardy to put the finishing touches on a fifth straight NEC crown. The girls' similarly clinched their conference title. The NEC League Meet is today (9 a.m.) at Bradley Palmer State Park.
BOYS' SOCCER sandwiched two wins (Gloucester and Everett) around a loss to Northeastern Conference opponent Salem this week to sit at 11-5. Thursday's home game against Central Catholic was postponed to Sunday at 4 p.m. The Tanners host Masconomet Monday (4 p.m.) to finish up the regular season. The Peabody boys earned five spots among NEC North All-Stars, the honors going to Mike Chiappini, Pat Ryan, Colin Mahoney, Zach DaSilva and Alex Cequiera.

FIELD HOCKEY improved to 9-5-3 this week, besting Saugus and Revere after a loss to Marblehead. Peabody hosts Everett today (10 a.m.) to finish out the season.
VOLLEYBALL (10-7) picked up a trio of wins, against North Reading, Lynn English and Hamilton-Wenham to close out the season.
Peabody GOLF wrapped up its competitive season Monday at the Division I North tournament at Beverly Golf and Tennis. Athan Goulos, at 77, shot just outside range of individual qualifiers for the state tournament.
Bishop Fenwick
Fenwick FOOTBALL was blanked, 29-0, by Cardinal Spellman Friday night, falling to 2-6. The Crusaders take on Arlington Catholic next Saturday (1 p.m.).
BOYS' SOCCER moved ahead to 10-6-2 this week, dropping a 1-0 contest to Marian High School, but besting Arlington Catholic, 2-1, on Wednesday. The Crusaders are 6-5-1 in the Catholic Central League Large Division and close out their regular season Monday hosting Lynnfield (3:45 p.m.).
GIRLS' SOCCER (9-2-6, 6-2-4 CCL Large) picked up two wins and a draw this week, defeating Lowell in a rescheduled game, then Matignon and tying things up, 1-1, with Arlington Catholic on Wednesday. The Lady Crusaders finish out the regular season today against cross-town opponents Peabody (11:30 a.m. at ).
FIELD HOCKEY was winless this week, falling to 6-11-3 to close out the season.
The Crusaders' VOLLEYBALL club (12-7) dropped a game to Austin Prep, but rallied back on Thursday to beat Archbishop Williams, 3-1. Fenwick hosts a re-match with Austin Prep Tuesday (5:15 p.m.).
GIRLS' CROSS-COUNTRY raced to second in the Catholic Central League this season with strong performances at Thursday's league meet at Franklin Park. Arianna Maida took second overall in 20:30, followed by Faye Hayley, Taylor Black and Hannah Smith to finish close behind Arlington Catholic. The BOYS' squad did not fare as well, clocking in a seventh place finish with Bryan Mendes at ninth (18:49) and Dan Deschenes in 14th.
Fenwick GOLF similarly wrapped up its season Monday at the Division III North tournament at the Far Corner Golf Club in Boxford. Andrew Young finished 32rd among individual scorers, shooting 84.
