Dowd, Digiacomo Keep Peabody Girls' Soccer Rolling [PHOTOS]

Unbeaten Tanners give Danvers, Beverly the boot behind Dowd, Digiacomo.

The girls' soccer team started fast and kept the pressure on throughout as it handled rival Danvers Monday night, 4-1. The Tanners remain unbeaten (3-0-1 NEC, 5-0-2 overall).

After Hayley Dowd and Danvers’ Kelsie O’Brien matched first-half goals, the Tanners took over and peppered Falcons’ keeper Mia Koutoulas (18 saves) the rest of the way. Madison Doherty stepped up with a pair of goals and Victoria Digiacomo had a goal and an assist. Dowd added three assists while Cayla Bucci and Bianca Muscato excelled on defense.

Dowd scored three goals and Digiacomo assisted on two as the Tanners toppled Beverly on Wednesday, 3-2. Taylor Provost and Christa Trombley anchored a stout effort on defense.

The Lady Tanners travel to Salem on Tuesday (4 p.m.).

FIELD HOCKEY improved to 4-1-2 overall by on Wednesday, 3-0. Joanne Frangias scored two goals and Gina Casey added one while goalie Lindsey Lloyd saved a stroke for the shutout. Tristina Buckley, Sabrina Rizzo and Aly Bortone had assists and Kelyee Brazell stood out on defense.

Lloyd had the shutout and Noelle Koch excelled on defense in Monday’s 0-0 deadlock with Marblehead. Alaina Warren netted the Tanners’ goal in last Thursday’s 2-1 loss to rival Danvers.

No. 1 Athan Goluus scored an impressive 6 ½-1 ½ victory against George Merry while No. 6 Matt Correale halved his match in the GOLF team’s 42 ½-29 ½ loss to undefeated Danvers Tuesday at .

BOYS' SOCCER didn't fare as well as their female counterparts against Danvers this week. The , on Monday in Danvers. The boys' squad did pick up a win in Gloucester, however, on Wednesday afternoon, 2-0.

The Tanners (4-2-0) host Salem on Tuesday (6:30 p.m.).

It’s been a frustrating stretch for the Crusaders’ FIELD HOCKEY squad, which has lost three straight since last Thursday’s 6-0 whitewash of Everett in which Hannah Bethune and Colleen Sears scored two goals each and Kelsey Wilkinson and Amalia Crawford had one apiece.

fell to Central Catholic last Saturday when the visitors converted the game-winner off a penalty corner with two seconds to play. Sears and Bethune had the Fenwick goals with Sears and Jen Jordan collecting assists. The Crusaders held 1-0 and 2-1 leads but couldn’t seal the deal.

Bethune tallied both goals in Wednesday’s 5-2 loss to Weston with Sears and Jordan garnering assists. Wednesday’s loss to Notre Dame of Hingham featured solid defensive efforts by Cheyenne Griffin and goalie Bridgette Townsend. Fenwick is now 3-4-1.

Boys' CROSS-COUNTRY split two meets, falling to Marian, 19-40, and squeezing past Archbishop Williams, 25-30. The Crusaders are now 3-3. Bryan Mendes ran second against Marian, followed by Eric Loehle in eighth, RJ Silva in ninth and Chris O’Brien in 10th. Mendes won against Williams as the Crusaders claimed five of the top nine spots.

The girls dropped a close 26-29 decision to Marian before running down William, 22-38. Arianna Maide paced the field against Marian, trailed by Faye Haley in third, Taylor Black in sixth and Alicia Tatone in ninth. Maida (second), Haley (third), Black (fourth), Tatone (sixth) and Hanna Smith (seventh) bunched up nicely in the win against Williams.

VOLLEYBALL now stands at 6-3 after splitting two matches. The Crusaders lost to Lynnfield, 3-1, and shut out Lowell Catholic, 3-0. Kate Lipka had 18 kills, Christine Smaltz contributed 31 assists and Tessa McLaughlin scored 15 service points.

GIRLS' SOCCER now holds a record of 4-2-2 after tying Notre Dame of Hingham last Friday, 1-1, falling to Cardinal Spellman Monday, 2-0, and shutting out Matignon Wednesday, 2-0. Junior forward Rose Fantozzi of Melrose scored all three Crusaders’ goals.

FOOTBALL to CAL/NEC Tier 4 foe Lynnfield. The Pioneers led, 21-0, at the half and tacked on two more scores in the third period.  Fenwick avoided the shutout on Nick Bona’s 34-yard TD pass to Nick Tambini in the fourth quarter. Bona added the two-point conversion rush for the final.
