Essay Contest Winners Announced by George Peabody House Museum
The third graders will be presented the awards on Feb. 23.

PEABODY, MA - The winners of the 27th Annual George Peabody House Museum Third Grade Essay Contest will be honored next week.
The contest, which coincides with the February birthday of George Peabody, was open to third grade students who, with their teachers, visited the museum during the fall and learned about the life and legacy of Peabody’s native son. The students wrote their essays in response to the following prompt: “In light of the Centennial of the City of Peabody in 2016, do you think the City should erect a statue of George Peabody to honor his many philanthropic contributions, not only in our City, but throughout the United States and England? Give at least two reasons to support your opinion. If you feel the City should commission a statue, you may include a suggestion as to where in our City the statue should be located.”
Mayor Ted Bettencourt and Representatives of North Shore Bank will present the awards to the students on February 23, 10AM at the George Peabody House Museum on Washington Street.
