Grube and Rocha Put in Winning Races at EMass
Sunday saw a strong effort by the Tanners' outdoor track team at the divisional meet in Fall River -- elite performers Zach Grube and Catarina Rocha both picked up wins.

senior Zach Grube was hurdles champ at the Eastern Mass. Division I meet on Sunday. After taking third in the preliminary heat for the 110 meter hurdles (15.58), Grube picked up the pace and zipped by to win the final in 14.93 seconds.
The Tanners boys' squad also saw second place go to the 4x100 relay team of Nat Gaye and Austin Brewster and Chris Cennami and Vlasi Duni with a time of 43.46.
Elite distance runner Nick Christensen did not end up running the mile as planned, but did take third in the 2-mile (9:37.05), while Brewster stormed the 200 in the preliminary heat, but couldn't hold onto his lead in the final, finishing third in 22.43.

Derek Peach threw for 6th in the discus at 128 feet, 4 inches.
Jason Hiou also picked up a point for Peabody in the 800, finishing 8th in a time of 2:00.53, along with the 4x400 relay team of Hiou, Grube, Nick Ingham and Tomas Martinez (8th, 3:29.58), and the 4x800 team of Benjamin Braz, Christensen, T.J. D'Amato and Anthony Tedescucci (8th, 8:19.11).

Grube snagged a quarter of a point, sharing 8th place in the high jump at six feet even, and closing out the scoring for the Tanners at 36.25 points in 5th place.
Other efforts for the day included Gaye (11th, 11:57) and Cennami (12th, 11:58) in in the 100, Mike Reardon in the 200 (29th, 24.80), Ingham in the 400 (10th, 51.79), Drew Fossa (11th, 4:33.31) and D'Amato (18th, 4:40.52) in the mile, Thomas Drover (18th, 1:00.06) and Martinez (20th, 1:00.17) in the 400 hurdles, Duni (11th, 19-09 1/2) and Steven Villani (32nd, 17-04) in the long jump, Benjamin Martinez in the triple jump (9th, 41-06 1/4) and Drover in the javelin (13th, 140-02).
Rocha leads girls' effort, cruising in 2-mile
No surprise yet again, junior Catarina Rocha easily won the 2-mile (11:03.43) and even with a time several seconds off her best effort this year in the outdoor season. Rocha was also seeded for the mile, but did not run.
Adding more points for the girls' team, Heather MacLean took third in the 400 (58.36) while Sarah May placed fifth in the 400 hurdles (1:06.18) and the 4x800 relay team of Rocha, May, Joanne Frangias and MacLean took third (9:36.39).
Overall, the Lady Tanners placed 9th with 26 points, a three-way tie with Cambridge Rindge & Latin and Barnstable.
Sam Allen (9th, 5:21.14) and Mary Leach (15th, 5:50.62) ran the mile, Lauren Barrett and Sydney May joined Rocha in the 2-mile (13th, 12:06.56; 19th, 12:23.48), Carrera Dean ran the 400 hurdles (19th, 1:12.81), the 4x100 relay team of Sabrina Rizzo, Mary Votto, Katrina Petrosino and Lauren Pelletrino finished 17th (52.87), the 4x800 relay team of Rocha, Frangias, MacLean and Sarah May had 21st (4:26.92), Petrosino competed in the long jump (21st, 13-04 1/4) and Katie Gallo in the shot put (17th, 30-09 3/4).
The All-State Meet is scheduled for June 2 out at Fitchburg State University.
Fenwick girls' finish strong at EMass
The Lady Crusaders saw strong efforts by several runners in their Eastern Mass. Division IV meet Saturday at North Reading High School.
Rose Fantozzi grabbed 5th in the 100 with 13.31 seconds, Jessica Patnaude took 7th in the 200 (28.12), Arianna Maida ran to 7th in the mile (5:24.61), the 4x100 relay finished 6th (52.10) and Faye Haley took 4th in the javelin (113-10).
The Fenwick girls tied Marian, Seekonk and Coyle & Cassidy for 14th place with 16 points.
For the boys' team, Dan Deschenes placed 6th in the 400 (52.01) and Shaun Farrell took 6th the discus (126-00). The Fenwick boys tied Archbishop Williams in 29th for 6 points.
