An ice cream social to raise money is scheduled for this Sunday, Sept. 13 at the Elks.

An ice cream social to raise money for Alzheimer’s research will take place at the Peabody Elks Lodge on 40 Oak St. on Sunday, Sept. 13 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The event is $5 per person and in addition to ice cream, there will also be face painting, raffles, music, and more.

This is the third year for the event, which raised $17,000 last year according to Charlotte Jackson, one of the organizers.

It’s a very personal effort for Jackson, whose husband Bill was diagnosed with the disease in 2008.

“He was very active in Peabody and was on the board of Citizens for Adequate Housing for 25 years,” said Jackson. “The saddest part is that Bill was very social and knew everyone, and now he knows nobody.”
