PEABODY, MA — Today is Monday, Nov. 9. Here are the stories Patch has been covering on the North Shore and across Massachusetts.

The locks were lifted from the James McVann-Louis O'Keefe Memorial Skating Rink this weekend after a two-week, state-mandated shutdown because of coronavirus cases traced back to ice hockey and hockey-related gatherings.

Paul LoGiudice, and his fellow rink managers, are now going to need the help of coaches, parents and players to make sure the doors stay open — with behavior off the ice perhaps as important as protocols on the ice when it comes to keeping cases in check.

While changing state metrics for what constitutes a "high-risk" community for coronavirus spread took Beverly out of the "red" zone, rates in the city continue to rise, leading Beverly Mike Cahill to send a message to the community urging compliance with the state's new stay-at-home

Saying "this is the time to think of others and of our whole community," Cahill cited the spike in the city's rates from this summer in asking residents to adhere to a 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew each night.

All weekend commuter rail service, 25 bus routes, ferry service, any rapid transit after midnight, and far more would be eliminated next year under a package of service cuts that MBTA officials will propose Monday.

Pressed into a difficult and unpopular decision by the evaporation of ridership and fare revenue during the pandemic, T leaders will unveil a formal package after extensive deliberation and kick off a month-long public comment period.

Altogether, their plan would shave roughly $130 million from spending on service, trimming current offerings by about 15 percent on buses, 30 percent on subways and 35 percent on commuter rail.

New England Patriots and Revolution fans will not be allowed inside Gillette Stadium through at least the end of the 2020 season amid the coronavirus pandemic, stadium officials announced Monday.

Originally, state officials banned fans at home games in September and October and were working with stadium officials and infectious disease experts on a reopening plan. But that plan will not come to fruition as coronavirus cases continue to spike in Massachusetts, Gov. Charlie Baker's administration told stadium officials.
