City councilors have planned special events for the Fourth of July.

Ward One: Saturday, July 4

Ward 1 Fourth of July Celebration will begin at 9 a.m. with the Horribles Parade. The parade starts at top of Blair Terrace and ends at Raddin Road Park. 9:20 a.m.: The fun starts at Raddin Road Park with music, bouncy castle, games, face painting, races, egg toss and pie eating contest. Lunch will be served (Hot dogs, chips, drinks and slush).

Councillor Barry Osborne and the Ward 1 Scholarship Committee will announce the availability of the Ward 1 Scholarship to graduating seniors, living in Ward 1, who plan on continuing their education. This year’s theme is “giving back to your community”. To be eligible for a scholarship, students must demonstrate their willingness to “give back” by volunteering in providing the children of Ward 1 a fun filled celebration on Saturday July 4, at Raddin Road Park from 8:00 a.m. until noon. Volunteers planning on helping and being eligible for a scholarship must contact Councillor Barry Osborne at 978-532-4587 by Thursday July 2.

Ward Two: Saturday, July 4

The Ward 2 Fourth of July Celebration is scheduled rain or shine (inside in the event of rain) from 9 a.m. to noon at the Welch School, 50 Swampscott Ave. and adjacent O’Connor Park. The day will begin with a Patriotic Parade at 9:15 a.m. Registration will be held at 9 a.m. at the front of the school. Bring your decorated bike, scooter, wagon or carriage. Field games, basketball contests, pony rides, balloon artist, face painting, art activity and a bunny petting area will take place beginning at 9:45 a.m. Kids can explore a fire truck and see a police vehicle throughout the morning. The event will feature live music by a local band beginning at 10 a.m. There will be a free raffle and prizes will be given out for the various events. Pizza, soft drinks, refreshments, cookies and ice cream will be served free of charge beginning at 11:15 a.m.

Ward Three, Saturday, July 4

Ward 3 Fourth of July celebration will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at Connolly Park. Horribles parade, races, and egg toss are a few of the activities planned. Hot dogs cotton candy, popcorn, drinks will be served. Contact person is James Moutsoulas and he can be reached at 978-473-1090.

Ward Four, Saturday, July 4

The Ward 4 Committee is currently in the planning stages of organizing our annual July 4th activities to be held on Wednesday July 4 at Emerson Park beginning at 9 a.m. Our annual field day at Emerson Park will start with the “Horribles Parade” of costumes, carriages, bicycles, and wagons. These will be judged in the categories of most patriotic and most original. All contestants should meet by the flagpole at Emerson Park at 9:00 a.m. Next will be the Independence Road Race for ages six and under, and another race for 7-8 year olds. This will be followed by the “Heartbreak”Road Race (1.2uphill scamper). Each age group will be awarded prizes and trophies for the overall winners. A field day will then commence with various age races, egg toss, and pie eating contests. There will also be a sawdust pile, face painting and arts and crafts table. The grand chefs will be preparing an old-fashioned cook-out of hamburgers, hot dogs, watermelon, drinks, and “make your own” ice cream sundaes.

It should be a fun morning! Anyone interested in helping with the festivities, please report to Emerson Park at 8:30 a.m. on July 4, or call Bob Driscoll at 978-531-6779. Volunteers are needed and will be greatly appreciated.

Ward Five, Saturday, July 4

The Ward 5 4th of July celebration will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at Lt. Ross Park (Cy Tenney Park) off of Johnson Street. All are welcome. The event starts with the Police Escorted Bicycle, Tricycle & Doll Carriage Parade stating from the Kiley Brothers administration building to the park. Decorate your entry with a patriotic theme. Line-up for the parade will be at 9:00 am. After the parade the fun continues with D.J., games nickels in the hay, radar baseball speed pitch, quarterback blitz, air brush tattoos, and more!! At 11:00 am we will start serving lunch featuring hot dogs, and pizza Beverages will also be provided.

Ward Six, Saturday, July 4

The Ward 6 Peabody Civic Association is pleased to announce this years 4th of July celebration activities. All activities are to take place at Symphony Park (off Catherine Drive), West Peabody. All are welcome. The activities planned will be the traditional Doll Carriage, Bicycle and Tricycle Parade. Decorate your entry with a Patriotic theme. Registration for the parade will be at 8:30 a.m. Parade to start promptly at 9 a.m. Following the parade there will be races, face painting, nickels in the hay, moon bounce, and a basketball free throw contest. At 11:15 a.m. we will start serving lunch featuring pizza, cookies, soft drinks and ice cream. “SPECIAL APPEARANCE BY CURIOUS CREATURES”.
