Judge Overturns Ruling For Accused Peabody Murderer

Attorneys for Wes Doughty wanted access to one of his victim's prison records, a request that a judge called "a fishing expedition."

PEABODY, MA -- Salem Superior Court Judge Timothy Feeley denied a defense attorney's request to access the prison records of a victim in a brutal, Peabody murder. In reversing a lower court's decision, Feeley said the request by attorneys for Wes Doughty was "a fishing expedition." Doughty, 40, formerly of Danvers, is accused of killing Mark Greenlaw, 37, and Jennifer O'Connor, 39, at a residence at 19 Farm Drive in Peabody in February 2017.

Salem Superior Court Judge Thomas Drechsler granted the request by John Apruzzese, who represents accused killer Doughty, in April. In a filing earlier this month, Department of Corrections lawyer C. Raye Poole said the request was overly broad and the records would not be admissible during the trial.

Doughty is accused of shooting and killing Greenlaw and then raping and killing his girlfriend, O'Connor, inside a house at 19 Farm Avenue in Peabody in February 2017. Greenlaw was a prisoner at the Middleton Jail from 2004 to 2010 and from 2011 to 2014.

Another suspect, Michael Hebb, pleaded guilty in October to helping cover up O'Connor's murder and trying to burn down the house. He was sentenced up to seven years in prison. Prosecutors said he could still be charged in the death of Greenlaw.
