For Kids Only Afterschool, in Partnership with Peabody Public Schools, Submits 21st CCLC Application
For Kids Only Afterschool Peabody Public School 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant
This coming week, For Kids Only Afterschool will be submitting a proposal to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for a 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) grant for the Center School. The purpose of this federally-funded grant is to support additional learning time for students during afterschool and summer hours to provide creative and engaging academic enrichment opportunities that will help to address college and workforce readiness and success.
Currently, For Kids Only Afterschool (FKO), a non-profit licensed afterschool provider, operates at six Peabody elementary schools and serves 350 Peabody Public School students during the out-of-school time hours. If awarded this 21st CCLC grant, FKO will be able to enroll 40 additional students in its Center School program to attend four days per week from school dismissal until 6:00pm and during the summer months.
A typical day at the 21st CCLC afterschool program will begin with a healthy snack and drink. After some free time to enjoy the school-day’s end, all children will participate in project based learning and social emotional learning activities facilitated by afterschool educators and Peabody Public School certified teachers. At 4:30pm, children will choose from a variety of enrichment class options, such as dramatic or creative arts, science or technology, or sports and fitness. Through participating in the 21st CCLC program, students will learn to understand how content covered in the classroom connects to everyday life (connection between math and sports or science and art).
