Lovely Has Challenger For State Senate Seat
Teury Marte of Salem wants to challenge lovely for the seat that represents Beverly, Danvers, Peabody, Salem and Topsfield.

SALEM, MA -- Teury Marte, a Salem resident who works as an area coordinator for the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission, announced her plans to run for state Senate. Marte is seeking the Second Essex District seat that represents Beverly, Danvers, Peabody, Salem and Topsfield. The seat is currenlt held by Sen. Joan Lovely, D-Salem, who is serving her second term.
Marte was born in the Dominican Republic and has lived in the U.S. for more than 30 years. Her campaign Website does list a party affiliation or outline formal positions on issues, but notes that her work has focused on innovation, reform, and creating employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
Lovely was elected in 2012. Since taking office four years ago, she has been credited with leading a push to overhaul the state's open records law and calling on the state police to maintain arrest logs.
