Lucky Winners Take Off for a Super Weekend

John Mello of Lynn and Lisa Markarian of Salem were the two winners in the YMCA's Super Bowl Raffle.

Nearly 100 people packed the on Wednesday evening eagerly awaiting the official drawing to see who the this weekend.

Mayor Ted Bettencourt drew the two winning tickets in the raffle: John Mello of Lynn and Lisa Markarian of Salem.

YMCA Operations Director Greg Griffin said neither Mello nor Markarian were at the drawing, so Bruce Macdonald, the president and CEO of the YMCA of Metro North, gave them each a call with the crowd listening in.

Griffin said they, each with a guest, were scheduled to take off from Logan Airport Friday morning on a chartered flight to Indianapolis. The two prize packages each included airfare, a three-night hotel stay, transfers and two Super Bowl tickets.

The YMCA staff also gave away door prizes and had music and trivia to entertain the crowd.

The YMCA of Metro North, which includes the Ys in Lynn, Peabody, Melrose and Saugus, conducted a Super Bowl Raffle that raised over $34,000 for the Y's annual Growing Stronger Together Campaign, which supports supports youth and family programs and services at all four YMCA locations.

Tickets were $100 each with a limit of 300 tickets available for each prize package. Five hundred twenty-five tickets were sold for a shot at an $8,000 weekend.
