Lynn Man Faces Drug Trafficking Charges After Peabody Arrest

A Peabody Police captain credited the officers involved with "exceptional work" in the arrest of Felix Oscar Lopez, 33, of Lynn, Saturday.

PEABODY, MA -- A police officer in Peabody on a routine patrol is being credited with an arrest that led to drug trafficking charges against a Lynn man. Felix Oscar Lopez, 33, was charged with trafficking of heroin and trafficking of cocaine after he was arrested Saturday night.

"This was exceptional work by all the officers involved," Peabody Police Captain Dennis Bonaiuto said. "This is an example of Peabody Police department's continuing efforts in diligently addressing the opiate and other drug crisis that are affecting so many communities in Massachusetts and across the country."

Bonaiuto said Officer Jospeh Maroney saw a man and woman talking in a parking lot of the McDonald's at 133 Main Street. A few minutes later a grey Honda pulled up and the woman got into the passenger's side. The car drove through the parking lot and less than two minutes later the woman exited the car.

Maroney called for backup and Sgt. Matthew Stark arrived with Van Tsoulas and Taryn Brotherton. As Maroney talked with Lopez, who was driving the Honda, he noticed drug paraphenalia in the car. Lopez was arrested and his car was searched. Police recovered 33.3 grams of cocaine, 29.2 grams of heroin, 1.5 ounces of marijuana and a "large quantity" of cash, Bonaiuto said.

Lopez was scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Monday morning in Salem District Court.
