Make Your Dream Retirement A Reality at Brooksby

David and Anne DeVoe were impressed by the number of amenities at Brooksby. Since moving in, they've maintained an engaging lifestyle.

Brooksby Village, an Erickson Senior Living community in Peabody, Mass., is redefining retirement living.

Freed from the burdens of homeownership, like mowing lawns, raking leaves, and making ongoing repairs, residents have more time to participate in engaging activities, make new friends, and enjoy an array of on-site amenities.

Just ask David and Anne DeVoe, who moved to Brooksby last May.

"We really felt that our house was getting to be too much for us," recalls Anne, whose daughter suggested they check out several retirement communities in the area to compare offerings. After touring Brooksby, David and Anne found the other options to be lacking.

"They could not compare to what Brooksby could bring to our lives. Brooksby certainly topped them all," says Anne. "The number of activities was surprising! There is something for everybody."

The unexpected

Several other factors impressed them as well.

"When we walked in, we felt that this was a happy community. Everyone passing said, 'Hello, have a good day,'" Anne recalls. "The size of Brooksby was also a huge plus."

They toured different maintenance-free homes as well as the community's state-of-the-art fitness centers and six restaurants, which serve made-to-order meals created by professional chefs.

David and Anne found other retirement communities to be "too remote," not wanting to be far from family, friends, and their church. Brooksby's location was ideal, allowing the couple to stay connected to their existing parish community--and foster a new one.

"I like that there is an interfaith community here," Anne says. "We have a chapel, and we respect everyone. That is very important."

Eager to embrace a vibrant, worry-free lifestyle, they joined the Priority List and reserved the perfect residence for them. "We did not want to deal with another winter [in our old house]," says Anne, with a laugh.

A vibrant lifestyle

Since settling into their residence, the DeVoes have maintained an engaging lifestyle filled with their favorite activities and new friends.

"We appreciate the number of restaurants. We have a Thursday night group that goes to dinner together--six of us. That's been great in getting to know the community," says Anne. "After you join activities, you begin to see familiar faces and make friends."

Menu items at Brooksby's fast-casual venues, bistros, bars, and full-service restaurants change on a regular basis--something they never expected of a retirement community.

Anne cares for her well-being by exercising, swimming, and meditating. She has also joined a book club and a Christian women's group.

"We were not getting exercise at home," Anne says. "Especially in the wintertime--we're not going to go out on the ice! My son-in-law was especially impressed with how they keep the grounds maintained and safe here in the winter."

This peace of mind--not worrying about traveling in inclement weather or shoveling snow--has enhanced their quality of life in retirement.

"David and I have a terrific quality of life here. It's like a whole new world opened," says Anne. "The academic activities, events, and musical offerings are incredible. Surprising, too, is how this community brings people together."

Envision your future

"If this retirement lifestyle is what you've been looking for, consider scheduling a personalized tour," says Sales Director Gina Fernandez.

Visits are tailored to highlight amenities that matter most to you, including active spaces like the pool and clubrooms or more relaxed areas such as the outdoor patios and libraries.

"For a more in-depth look at community life, I recommend joining the Priority List," she adds. "In addition to saving a spot in line for a future residence, members can sign up for an overnight Live the Life stay. It's an opportunity to join classes, dine at the restaurants, and chat with current residents."

Fernandez continues, "Many prospective residents leave very impressed with everything Brooksby has to offer. The value of our worry-free lifestyle and amenities is unbeatable!"

'We love it'

Approaching their one-year anniversary at Brooksby, David and Anne are so glad they found a community that allows them to make the most of their retirement years.

"We love it here!" Anne says. "We're optimistic about our day-to-day life."
