Memorial Day In Peabody: What You Need To Know

PEABODY, MA -- Monday, May 28, is Memorial Day, and the city will be hosting its events throughout the weekend. On Friday at 9 am volunteers will flag Veteran's graves at Cedar Grove Cemetery of Howley Street. On Sunday, there will be a mass at 8:30 am at St. Adelaide’s Church at 712 Lowell Street.
The mass will be followed by VFW-sponsored events will be held at the Kiley School, Oak Grove Cemetery, the Civil War Monument and the Lexington Monument. At 11:30 am Mayor Edward Bettencourt will speak at the dedication of a plaque for Ralph Yonis at Pierpont Street.
On Monday, Medal of Honor families are invited to board buses at City Hall to travel to Cedar Grove Cemetery. The Memorial Ceremony begins at 9:30 at the cemetery. The parade begins at 11:30 at Allens Lane and Washington Street. Ceremony in front of Peabody City Hall including Medal of Liberty presentations will be held at 12:30 pm.

- Subway, buses: Sunday schedule.
- Supermarkets: Open
- Convenience stores: Open
- Bars: Open
- Banks: Closed
- Basically anything to do with municipal government: Closed
- Libraries, see above: Closed
- Schools: Closed
- Mail: Express delivery only
- Trash/recycling collection: Delayed one day. Monday pickup on Tuesday, Tuesday pickup on Wednesday, etc., ending with Friday pickup on Saturday.
