Couple Held on Child Assault Charges After 11-Year-Old Was Hospitalized

The state Department of Children and Families is involved.

UPDATED: A 37-year-old woman and her co-defendat and 36-year-old husband are being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on Monday, March 16, on a number of child assult charges, including assault with a dangerous weapon (belt).

The date of the offenses was March 4. An 11-year-old girl was hospitalized after the assault, according to authorities. The state Department of Children and Families is involved, according to Carrie Kimball-Monahan, spokeswoman for the Essex District Attorney’s office. No other information about the child’s condition was available.

Police arrested Jacinda G. Avery, of Peabody, on Thursday, March 12, for assault and battery on a child with substantial injury, two counts; assault and battery on a child with substanital injury; permit substanital injury to a child; and witness intimidation. She was arrested on a warrant issued out of Peabody District Court, and arraigned on Thursday.

Police arrested Avery’s husband, Kenneth Green, of Peabody, on March 6. Green was arraigned on March 9 on chrages of assault and battery on a child with injury and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (belt).
