Anthony N. Coito, 91, of Peabody, passed away Wednesday, November 6th, at the Aviv Centers for Living in Peabody. He was the husband of the late Mary (Lopes) Coito and loving companion of Mary Pzegeo for the past 36 years.
Anthony was born on January 15, 1923, son of the late Thomas and Lucy (Daniel) Coito. He was raised and educated in Peabody.
While residing in Peabody he worked as a firefighter for the Peabody Fire Department, prior to his retirement. He also served in the United States Navy during World War II. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, attending the monthly dinners at the Portuguese American War Veterans Post No 1 in Peabody, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Besides his loving companion, he is survived by his daughter Shirley Wachlin of Peabody: his grandsons, Ronald and Richard Wachlin; his great-grandchild Nicholas Wachlin; his siblings, Delinda Thornton of CA, Antonia Sariva or Brockton, MA, Henry Coito of Peabody, and many nieces. nephews, cousins, and close friends. He was predeceased by his daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth “Betty” and David Ellsworth and a sister Mary Szczepucha.
A visitation will be held, Sunday, November 9, from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held on Monday, November 10, at 9:30AM at the Funeral Home followed by a Mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody at 10:30AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
