Obituary: Barbara E (Young) Corning, Very Active in the Community

Was employed for over 20 years as an administrator for the U. S. Department of Agriculture.

Barbara E (Young) Corning, 98, of Peabody, died Saturday morning, April 18, 2015 at the Rosewood Nursing Home following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Orin B Corning, Jr.

Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Sarah (Dyke) Young. She was a lifelong resident of West Peabody, attending Peabody Public Schools and graduating with Honors from Peabody High School in 1934. After high school, she attended Bryant and Stratton Business School in Boston.

Barbara was very active in the community in which she lived. In her earlier years, she was a member of the Girl Scouts and achieved their highest honor, the Golden Eaglet. She was a lifelong member at West Congregational Church, and was a choir member and Sunday School Teacher as well. She also was a member of the West Peabody Couples’ Club and was an Officer in the West Peabody Grange. She was a leader of both the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. In her later years, she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and word search puzzles.

She was employed for over 20 years as an administrator for the U. S. Department of Agriculture.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Orin B Corning III and his wife Elaine of Virginia Beach, VA and her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jack Peterson of Peabody, her brother, Richard A and his wife Eileen Young of Strafford, NH, her sister, Priscilla J. Felt of Keene, NH, her two cherished grandchildren, Kristin Peterson-Bozak and her husband Brian Bozak of Strafford, NH, and John Peterson and his wife Jennifer Hagerman-Peterson of Danvers, her two cherished great grandchildren, Haleigh and Taylor Peterson, and by Georgie, the family mini schnauzer who kept Barbara laughing. She was predeceased by brothers Charles Young and John Young, and sisters Miriam Pechinsky and Lois Berry. Barbara’s family would like to thank the staff at Rosewood for their compassionate care during her brief stay there.

Following cremation, her Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 11:45 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 11:45 AM. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Peabody immediately following service.
