Obituary: Clarinda A. Cunha, Seamstress for Over 20 Years

Born and raised in Portugal

.Clarinda A. Cunha, 80, of Peabody passed away peacefully Thursday morning at her home surrounded by her loving family following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Manuel A. Cunha, who passed away in 2002.

Clarinda was born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal on December 1, 1933, daughter of the late Manuel Aguiar and Elvira (Candida) Cunha. She was born and raised in Portugal until immigrating to Peabody 42 years ago. She worked as a seamstress in the leather industry in Peabody for over 20 years prior to her illness.
Mrs. Cunha was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody. Many of her passions in life consisted of cooking authentic Portuguese food, tending to her garden, hosting parties for family, but most importantly just spending quality time with her family.
She is survived by her children and spouses, Amelia & the late Scott Patten of Peabody, Jose & Athena Cunha of Portugal, and Elvira & Michael Castanha of New Hampshire; her grandchildren, Susan Azevedo, Jennifer & Wayne Mistretta, Jessica Cunha, Christopher & Nicholas Halmoutis; her brother Normando Aguiar, and many great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her siblings, Silvino Aguiar, Maria Brazil, and her granddaughter, Diana Cunha.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Her funeral will be held on Monday at 8:00 AM at the Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody at 9:00 AM.
