Obituary: Edna M. (Thompson) Kolhonen, Soloist and Member of Several Church Choirs

Worked at the A.C. Lawrence Leather Company in Peabody, and later worked at Rex Leather.

Edna M. (Thompson) Kolhonen, 87, beloved wife of the late William Kolhonen, died peacefully on Saturday February 28, 2015 at the Rosewood Skilled Nursing Center in Peabody following an extended illness.

Born in Greenwood, she was the daughter of the late George A. and Anna (Morris) Thompson. She grew up in Danvers and graduated from Danvers High School.

Mrs. Kolhonen worked at the A.C. Lawrence Leather Company in Peabody where she met her husband of 65 years; then later with Rex Leather. She mostly was employed by the City of Peabody Public Schools as a Teacher’s Aide.

Edna was blessed with a gifted singing voice, and she was a Soloist as well as a member of several church choirs. She also performed many a concert at the Grace Church in Salem. She was a very devoted, faithful and longtime member of the First Lutheran Church of Lynn. She also enjoyed Square Dancing with the Riverside Squares, camping in Ossipee, NH, and spending time with her cherished grandchildren.

She is survived by a son Edwin & his wife Maureen Kolhonen of Peabody; two daughters, Faye A. Kolhonen of Beverly and Marsha Juran of LaCrosse, WI; five grandchildren, Matthew Kolhonen, Kevin Kolhonen, and Maura Kolhonen, Jonathan Juran and Nathan Juran; a brother Arthur G. Thompson of FL, and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for her Funeral Service on Wednesday March 4, 2015 at 11 AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 – 7 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
