Obituary: Ethel (Christo) Gerakaris, Wife of the Late Retired Peabody Fire Chief Nick Gerakaris

Ethel (Christo) Gerakaris, 84, of Peabody, died Saturday afternoon at her home surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Retired Peabody Fire Chief Nick Gerakaris.
Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Helen (Bavaveas) Christo. She was a lifelong resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1947.

Ethel was a life long member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church. She loved cooking and gardening and participated in activities at the Peabody Senior Center.
Ethel’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by family and friends alike.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Andrew and Lisa Gerakaris of Maine, and Peter and Andrea Gerakaris of Andover, her four daughters and three sons-in-law, Elaine and Ron Shah of Peabody, Christina Gerakaris of Hamilton, Julia and Brian Steeves of Hamilton, and Lorraine and Keith Jones of Maine, her 12 cherished grandchildren, Axios, Zoe, and Zachary Gerakaris, Steven, Michael, and Bryan Shah, Joshua, Meghan, and Victoria Steeves, Alethea Jones, and Ethan and Caleb Gerakaris, and also by her two great grandchildren, Simone Liko and Naoemi Shah. She was predeceased by her three sisters, Florence Pappas, Mary Silvey, and Jennie Christo.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by her Funeral Service at 10:00 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Paleologos St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
