Obituary: Grace (Tavares) Madruga, 90, Operated Grace's Beauty Salon for 50 Years
Grace Madruga, lifelong resident of Peabody, died Thursday, Aug. 28.

Grace (Tavares) Madruga, 90, of Peabody died unexpectedly on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the NSMC â“ Salem Hospital. She was the wife of the late Manuel Edmund Madruga. She was born in Peabody on July 13, 1924, the daughter of the late Joseph and Laurentina (Silva)Tavares and was a graduate of Peabody High School and had resided in Peabody all her life.
She had operated Grace’s Beauty Salon for 50 years at her residence prior to her retirement 8 years ago.
Grace loved Gardening and knitting clothes for her family and was always making crossword puzzles.She also enjoyed cooking, especially her Kale Soup recipe. She had been a member of the Portuguese American War Vets Ladies Auxiliary. She had been a founder of Our Lady of Fatima Church and worked diligently on the organizing and planning committees. She was always thinking and doing for others and helping them out with their needs.
She is survived by three sons, Ronald and his wife Kathleen Madruga and Richard Madruga all of Peabody and Mark Madruga and his wife Susan of Middleton, a daughter, Laura Madruga of Peabody, a brother and sister-in-law, George and Iona Travers of Berkeley, MA, a sister-in-law, Marge Tavares of Jacksonville, Florida, her five cherished grandchildren, Pamela Madruga,Heather Harding, Michael, Emily and Casey Madruga, 6 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Arthur, Joseph, William, and her twin brother Manuel Travers,Alice Dufour and Mary Almeida.
A visitation will be held on Monday from 4-8 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 8:00 AM from the funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody at 9:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Maryâs Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Our Lady of Fatima Church Fund, 50 Walsh Ave, Peabody, MA 01960 in her memory.
