Obituary: Hilda L. (Modugno) Zorzonello, Former Ward 1 Poll Worker

Hilda L. (Modugno) Zorzonello, 92, of Peabody, wife to the late Peter A. Zorzonello whom she shared 53 years of marriage, died on Saturday, January 31, 2015 with her family by her side at Salem Hospital.

Mrs. Zorzonello was born in Lynn, on February 7, 1922, daughter of Giuseppe and Filomena (Tenaglia) Modugno. She was raised in Lynn and graduated from Lynn English High School. Following her marriage in 1941, she and her late husband moved to Peabody.

Hilda was a loving mother who devoted her life to creating a home for her family, and for the past 21 years her grandchildren were the love of her life. She will be remembered as a Ward 1 Poll worker, and as hobbies enjoyed dancing in her younger years and doing ceramics.

Hilda is survived by her son and his wife, Peter A. and Linda A. Zorzonello of Peabody with whom she resided; her grandchildren, Peter A. Zorzonello Jr. and Emily A. Zorzonello; a brother and his wife, Joseph “Nicky” and Mary Modugno of Lynn; a sister, Flora Kelter of Lynn; a sister-in-law, Gertrude Modugno of Lynn and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Gloria Elena Zorzonello and her siblings, Antonio Modugno, Velia “Val” O’Neill and Eva Zuppio.

Her family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 9 a.m. from the funeral home followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Ann’s Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made in Hilda’s name to the Northeast Animal Shelter, www.northeastanimalshelter.org, 347 Highland Ave., Salem 01970 or to St. Ann Church, 136 Lynn St., Peabody 01960.
