Jacob A. Smoller, 29, of Peabody, died unexpectedly on Thursday, May 14, 2015.
Born in Portland Oregon on May 21, 1985, he was the son of Ronald L. and Susan M. (Meehan) Smoller. He was raised in Peabody graduating from Peabody Veterans Memorial High School in 2003, and was a lifelong resident of the city.

After high school, Jacob studied under Master Bike Builder Koichi Yagaguchi, the lone official frame builder of the U.S. Olympic Cycling Team. Jacob was a self-employed bicycle builder and messenger, who enjoyed custom building his own bicycles, organizing bike races, playing the guitar, listening to and playing music. He was also a self-accomplished artist and photographer who traveled extensively. He enjoyed spending time with family and the friendship of many.
At the request of Jacob’s family there will be no services. In lieu of floral arrangements, his family requests that donations be made in Jacob’s memory to “Bikes Not Bombs: Using the Bicycle as a Vehicle of Social Change” at http//bikesnotbombs.org . A memorial ride by fellow bicyclists was held in Boston on May 17 in Boston.

In addition to his parents of Peabody, Jacob is survived by his sister, Sara L. Smoller of East Boston; his paternal grandmother, Rosalind Smoller of FL; his aunts and uncles, Michael Smoller of FL, Carl and Victoria Smoller of TX, Robert and Florence Meehan of RI, Carol Lach of RI, Kathy Gower of IL, as well as many cousins and numerous friends, and his beloved dog, Jules.
