Obituary: John D. Bailey, Bee Keeper and Member of the Essex County Bee Keepers Association

World War II Veteran

John D. Bailey, 90, beloved husband of the late Barbara (Pomeroy) Bailey, died peacefully while in the comforting presence of his family, on Monday January 12, 2015 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a brief illness.

Born in Pittston, ME, he was the son of the late George and Bessie (Weeks) Bailey. He grew up in Gardiner, ME and graduated from Gardiner High School.

Mr. Bailey enlisted in the United States Army during World War II, and after the war continued his studies at the University of Maine at Orono where he received a degree in Electrical Engineering.

Following a short stint at a power company in Maine, he was hired by General Electric in Lynn which brought him and his family to Massachusetts, settling in Peabody where he lived for nearly 60 years. He worked for Raytheon before working at Stone and Webster, retiring 28 years ago.

John was a Bee Keeper and a member of the Essex County Bee Keepers Association. He was also a member of the Peabody Historical Society, enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. He was very active as a member of the First Baptist Church in Peabody until its closing. He was then active with the First Baptist Church in Salem. He was dedicated to his family and his faith and will be dearly missed among those with gratitude for knowing him.

He is survived by a son David & his wife MaryAnn Bailey of Hampton, NH; three daughters, Linda Sullivan of Peabody, Eloise & her husband Matt Allen of Enfield, CT, and Susan & her husband Neal Truesdale of Peabody; nine grandchildren, Jeff & Lesa Trowt, Jill Trowt, April & Mark Tozlowski, Jennifer & Jeff Jensen, Nicholas & Jackie Allen, Paul Allen, Elizabeth Allen, Briana & Jacob Thomas, and Caitlin Truesdale; nine great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jordyn, Luke, Megan, Emily, Chris, Kate, Ember, Corri and Kiera; a brother Walter Bailey of Togus, ME, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death, besides his wife and parents, by a son Paul Bailey.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for his Funeral Service on Friday January 16, 2015 at 10 AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 3:30 – 7:30 P.M. in the funeral home. Spring Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Gardiner, ME. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
