Obituary: Josephine A. (Curran) Wall Spanks, Cover Girl of the Sears Catalog in 1949

While raising her children, she was also employed at Ann & Hope and Marshalls.

Josephine A. (Curran) Wall Spanks, 87, of Peabody, wife of the late Walter H. Spanks with whom she shared 30 years of marriage, died on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 with her daughter by her side at the Atrium Assisted Living in Danvers.

Josephine was born in Brookline, on July 16, 1927, daughter of John F. and Mary (Rochford) Curran. She was raised in Brookline and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1944 and has been a resident of Peabody since 1962.

Josephine was employed for 21 years as a records manager at Hogan Regional Center in Hathorne until her retirement in 1994. Following High School she was employed at Sears & Roebuck Company and in 1949 was the cover girl of the Sears catalog. While raising her children, she was also employed at Ann & Hope and Marshalls. Josephine was a loving mother who devoted her life to creating a home for her family and later was so proud of her 2 grandsons. She was an avid sports lady who enjoyed golfing, bowling, swimming and ice skating.

Josephine is survived by her children and their spouses, Carol A. Wall with whom she resided in Peabody, Linda M. Corbett of Beverly, Richard J. and Kimberley Wall of Clover, SC, and Gary F. and Connie Wall of Londonderry, NH; 2 grandsons, Brendan and Brady Wall; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the former wife of Joseph D. Wall. She was predeceased by her siblings, Helen Osenton, John Curran and Mary Brown.

Her family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. Peabody. Josephine’s service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, February 11, 2015. The family requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Josephine’s name to the Friends of Hathorne, C/O Rosemary Bevins, Hogan Regional Center, P.O. Box A, Hathorne, MA 01937.
