Obituary: Julia "Mitzy" (Sarbanis) Kappotis, Lifelong Resident of Peabody

Julia “Mitzy” (Sarbanis) Kappotis, 91, of Peabody, loving wife of 68 years to Peter C. Kappotis, died at her home with her family by her side on Monday, February 16, 2015.

Mrs. Kappotis was born Peabody, on October 23, 1923, daughter of George and Katherine (Kymbizis) Sarbanis. She was raised and educated in Peabody and was a lifelong resident of the city.

Mitzy was employed for several years as a leather topper at Ideal Leather in Peabody. She was a loving mother who devoted her life to creating a home for her family. Her most favorite times were spending time with family and friends. As hobbies Mitzy enjoyed traveling and gardening and she was also an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the Red Sox and Patriots.

In addition to her loving husband, Mitzy is survived by her cherished daughter, Cynthia P. Kappotis of Peabody; a brother, Peter Sarbanis of Peabody, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Chris Sarbanis, Angelo Sarbanis, Celia Zoubanis, Irene Theodoracopoulos and Mary Couloris.

Her family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, February 19, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Her funeral will be held on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 9 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a service at 10 a.m. at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made in Mitzy’s name to St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, for the handicap accessibility campaign, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA 01960.
