Obituary: Maureen Hanna, 54, Peabody Teacher

Ms. Hanna was a school teacher with the City of Peabody Public Schools for 15 years.

Maureen Hanna, 54, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014 at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center Hospital in Burlington following consequences from an accident at her home last Tuesday.

Born in Rockville Center, NY, she was the daughter of Solita (Murauaga) Hanna of Pennsylvania and the late John Hanna. She grew up there and graduated from Rockville Center High School. She then graduated from Molley College, and studied in Graduate School at Simmons College in Boston and earned her CAGS Degree from Salem State College.

Ms. Hanna was a school teacher with the City of Peabody Public Schools for 15 years. She started at the Burke School, and was Special Education for 12 years until recently changing to the McCarthy School and taught 3rd grade until retiring for 2 ½ years with a disability.

Maureen, or “Mo” as she was affectionately known, enjoyed camping at Lakeside Pines in Bridgedon, ME. She also liked boating and traveling, yet her passion was caring for children—especially since family life was one of her most important values. She was a fun and gentle spirit and will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched.

She is survived by her life partner, Nancy Kucker of Peabody; her mother Solita Hanna of PA; a brother, John Hanna of FL; three sisters, Terri Vasalotto of PA, Liz Hanna of Portland, ME, and Solita Hanna of PA; several nieces and nephews, and also cherished Tyler and Brianna Benoit of Peabody for whom she was a caregiver.

A visitation will take place on Wednesday from 4 – 8 p.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, and then cremation will take place before a Funeral Service on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014 at 10 a.m. in the West Congregational Church, Johnson St., Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Urn burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
