Obituary: Porfirio P. Dinis, Leather Worker For 30 Years on the North Shore

Member of the Portuguese American War Veterans Post #1 in Peabody

Porfirio P. Dinis, 73, of Peabody, loving husband of Odete (Enes) Dinis, died with his family by his side at Beverly Hospital on Sunday, December 28, 2014 after a brief illness.

Mr. Dinis was born in the Azores, Portugal, on March 15, 1941, son of the late Manuel and Maria (de Lima) Dinis. He was raised and educated in Portugal and immigrated to the United States in 1975 making his home in Salem before moving to Peabody in 1977.

Porfirio was employed for 30 years as a leather worker at Salem Suede and other North Shore Leather Companies until his retirement in 2003. He was a member of the Portuguese American War Veterans Post #1, and as a hobby enjoyed caring for his grape vines and summering in Portugal.

In addition to his wife with whom he shared 48 years of marriage, he is survived by 2 sons and their wives, Luciano M. and Michelle Dinis, Victor M. and Natalia Dinis all of Peabody; 5 grandchildren, Kayla, Sara and Sophia Dinis, Jeffrey DeFonte and Lucas Amaral.

His family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at 10 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St., Peabody.
