Obituary: Raymond W. Brown Sr., Retired Peabody Firefighter

Served in the US Army during WW ll with General Patten's Third Army Headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany with the 1100th Engineer Detachment

Raymond W. Brown Sr., 87, of Peabody a retired Peabody Firefighter, died Tuesday at the NSMC –Salem Hospital after a short illness. He was the husband of Marion (Witham) Brown with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.

Ray was born in Peabody on August 14, 1927, the son of the late Kendall W. and Mary W. (Little) Brown and had resided in Peabody all his life. He left Peabody high School in his junior year to serve in the US Army during WW ll with General Patten’s Third Army Headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany with the1100th Engineer Detachment and was discharged in 1947. He had joined the Peabody Fire Department on January 1, 1956

Serving nearly 32 years retiring in 1987.

He enjoyed going up to his log cabin with the family in East Wakefield, NH during the summers. He also liked to travel to Foxwoods, Ct. He had been a member of the Jordan Lodge of Mason A.F. & A.M. and recently received his 50 year pin.

He is survived by his wife, Marion, his two sons Raymond W. Brown Jr. and Kevin W. Brown both of Peabody, a sister-in-law, Joan Brown of Danvers and his nieces, Kristen and Kerri of California. He was the grandfather of the late Scott Brown, the brother of the late Douglas Brown who died in August and the father-in-law of the late Debbie Brown.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral Service will be held there on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to New England Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave., Salem MA 01970 in his memory.
