Obituary: Richard Urbanowicz, 65, Retired Salem Police Detective Sergeant

Ret. Salem Police Department, Detective Sergeant Richard Urbanowicz, 65, of Salem, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on Monday, May 25, 2015 at the Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was the husband of the late Kathryn (Levesque) Urbanowicz, with whom he shared 30 years of marriage.

Dick was born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Stanley F. and Justine (Czarnecki) Urbanowicz.

He graduated from Bishop Fenwick High School where he met and later married Kate, the love of his life. He was a Vietnam era veteran of the United States Army, and attained the rank of Sergeant as a Military Police officer, stationed in Alaska.

Following his military service, he was appointed to the Salem Police Department in January, 1972. He rose through the ranks to Detective Sergeant before retiring in 2002 with 30 years of service.

His three grandsons were the joy of his life. He was extremely proud of all of them and would tell anyone who was willing to listen. They loved being with their Dziadzi and will miss him deeply.

Dick is survived by his two children, Janey and her husband Richard Beauregard of Salem with whom he resided, Richard Urbanowicz Jr and his wife Julie of Salem. His three grandsons, Billy Beauregard, Tommy Beauregard, and Ryan Urbanowicz, all of Salem. He is also survived by one sister Tina and her husband Mark Vassy, a niece Marcie, her husband Jason Glick and their son Lucas, all of Salem. As well as a large extended family.

He leaves many friends and neighbors, both locally as well as in Myrtle Beach, SC, his second home for the past 15 years. The family would like to thank all for the love and support that have been expressed during this difficult time.
