Obituary: Sandra Jean Dowdell, Longtime Nurse

Been employed at the former J.B. Thomas Hospital in Peabody.

Sandra Jean Dowdell of Peabody and Kissimmee, Florida, died peacefully, Saturday March 7th, 2015 following a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late John James and Hilda (Dupray)Dowdell. She was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of the former St. James School and High School. She continued her education earning her nursing degree from Essex Aggie School of Nursing.

A License Practical Nurse, Sandra had been employed at the former J.B. Thomas Hospital in Peabody. She matriculated into long term skilled care having been associated with Mediplex, the former Beverly Glen Nursing Home and Peabody Glen Nursing Home until the time of her retirement.

Sandra loved to travel with friends and family and was always planning her next adventure. She was a long time dedicated communicant of St. James Parish in Salem and was a member of the Choir at St. James. Sandra in her retirement had resided in Kissimmee, Florida but never lost her connection to the North Shore. She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed.

Sandra is survived by her devoted daughter, Jennifer McPhee and her husband Thomas of Pelham, N.H., her sons, Jeffrey Goldberg and his wife Arabella Plum of Ipswich and Jeremey Goldberg and his wife Kim Bowen Goldberg of Winthrop, her grandchildren, TJ and Taryn McPhee, her brother John David Dowdell of Orlando, FL and her brother-in-law Edward Nolan of Danvers, many nieces, nephews and great grand nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family and friends. She was also the sister of the late Cynthia Burns, Jane Nolan and Patricia Saffer and sister-in-law of the late Joseph Burns and Leon Saffer.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held from The O’Donnell Funeral Home, 46 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) Salem, Monday, March 16th at 12:15 P.M. followed by her funeral Mass in St. James Church, Federal St., Salem at 1P.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem will take place at a later date. Visiting hours prior to the funeral from 9 to 12 P.M.
