Obituary: Virginia "Jennie" (Pappas) Boulakes, Member at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church

Volunteered endless hours working with special needs children

Virginia “Jennie” (Pappas) Boulakes, 91, of Peabody, wife of the late George S. Boulakes, died on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Rosewood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Peabody.


Mrs. Boulakes was born in Peabody, on April 18, 1923, daughter of the late Andrew and Constantina Papavasilopoulou. She was raised in Peabody, graduated from Peabody High School and was a lifelong resident of the city.

Jennie began her working career as an assembler at GTE Sylvania in Salem, and later as a clerk at Jordan Marsh in Peabody. She was a loving mother who devoted her life to creating a home for her late son Stephen, family and friends. She was an active member and volunteer at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody, and volunteered endless hours working with special needs children.

Jennie is survived by her 5 nephews and a niece, Francis “Frank” Donohue of Lynn, Marie Christopher of Wenham, Christopher Kozakis and Kenneth Kozakis of AZ, Stephen Christopher of FL and Theodore Christopher, M.D. of PA; a sister-in-law, Tina Kozakis and her husband John of AZ, and many grand nieces and grand nephews. Jennie was predeceased by her son Stephen George Boulakes, her sister Helen Booza, and 3 dear friends, Neea, Margo and Collette Laberis.

Jennie’s family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, November 13, 2014 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Her funeral service will be held Thursday at 12 noon in the funeral home with Reverend Timothy Curren officiating.
