Obituary: William J. "Bill" Reid, 53, Regional Sales Manager

Involved with the Cub Scouts, Peabody Basketball Association, Knights of Columbus, and was a communicant at St. Ann's Church.

William J. “Bill” Reid, 53, of Peabody, loving husband of Elizabeth S. “Betsy” (Piraino) Reid, died on Sunday, March 8, 2015 with his family by his side at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington.

Bill, a resident of Peabody since 1986, was born in Hartford, CT, on September 1, 1961, and was raised in Framingham, graduating from Marian H.S in 1979. He then continued his education at Framingham State University, obtaining a BA in Economics in 1984. Bill’s 30 year career in the food industry began as a salesman and for the past 14 years he was a Regional Sales Manager with Cavendish Farms on the East Coast and some provinces in Canada. As a parent, Bill was involved with his children in the many recreational, athletic and educational opportunities they have had throughout their lives. As a pillar of the community, he was involved with the Cub Scouts, Peabody Basketball Association, Knights of Columbus, and was a communicant at St. Ann’s Church where he was active in several events and activities and will be greatly missed. In addition to loving his family, Bill was always the first to offer his time, talent and humor. He also enjoyed the beach, boating and taking daily walks with his loyal companion, Border Collie Matty, which he had rescued after 9/11 and lost to illness 5 weeks ago.

In addition to his wife Betsy of 29 years, Bill is survived by his children, Daniel W., Meghan E. and Melissa A. Reid all of Peabody; his parents, Douglas Reid Sr. and Dorothy (Johnson) Reid of Marlborough; his siblings and their spouses, Doug Reid Jr. and Cotty Reid of Pepperell, Sue and Paul Woundy of Tewksbury, Rich and Karen Reid of Ashland, Cindy Dorsey of Marlborough, and Dorey and Len Maioriello of Douglassville, PA; his father-in-law, Frank Piraino of Gloucester, his mother-in-law, Marilyn (Tebow) Piraino of Gloucester; brother-in-law Frank Piraino Jr., of Gloucester and sisters-in-law, Julie and Dave DeVirgilio of FL, and Carol-Ann Piraino of CA; many adoring nieces and nephews and countless friends.

Bill’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, March 13, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, MA. His funeral will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. at St. Ann’s Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody. The family requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Bill’s memory to the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, www.lahey.org , designated for the Cardiac Unit, 41 Mall Rd., Burlington, MA 01805.
